How Much Does the Chevy Volt cost? $41,000

July 27th, 2010 Written by Z

In light of terrible business decisions in the past, General Motors is really stepping up its game with a new brand of hybrid…the Chevy Volt. The car, which will cost $41,000, is placed perfectly to dominate its competition, both in the price and its future branding. I love this thing.

Buy a Real Car

General Motors will carry the tradition of branding its automobiles as a “real car.” General Motors plans to get aggressive by calling out its competition, namely less expensive electric cars, and calling the Volt a “real car.” The company is used to selling larger, bulkier, and higher powered cars than the competition, and the Volt will be no exception. However, due to the fact that the Volt has the ability to travel further thanks to an electric and gasoline engine, the Volt does have the range that no other electric car can match. Of course, at distances of less than 40 miles, the Volt uses no gas at all.

Reasonable Lease

I have little doubt that early adopters will find it financially advantageous to lease, rather than buy, a new Chevy Volt. Thanks to high replacement costs on rare auto parts and the fact that batteries simply don’t last forever, the Volt’s $350 per month option will appeal to both practical consumers and family car shoppers, two markets that should love this car.

The $350 lease option compares nicely to the $349 a month lease option for the Nissan Leaf. So for payment shoppers (most car shoppers), the difference is just $1 a month.

Mark My Words

This car will be a GM home run. From top to bottom, the 40 mile electric exclusive range to the comfortable sedan seating, and a lease option that is affordable, this car will be a smashing hit. Can it put GM back on the map? Eh, they’ve still got some moving to do. But will it be a spark in the engine of the once great company? Without doubt.

Companies can get a feel for sales based upon pre-orders. Not guaranteed, but sure beats NO ONE pre-ordering the Volt.

I even have friends pre-ordering them based upon the favorable lease rates, which are far below what a car payment would be if they bought.

My brother would save about $150 a month in fuel costs because of his long commute (even if he had to dip into using gas everyday). His old clunker is costing him an annualized average of $150 a month in repairs, too.. Not having airbags is also a problem of safety for my brother, and the Volt has a great airbag arrangement for safety.
