BREAKING: Verizon iPhone Coming in January 2011
Bloomberg news just issued a report stating that the popular Apple iPhone would be coming to the Verizon network in January 2011. Analysts expect the phone could be wildly popular at Verizon, the world’s largest carrier, and sell as many as 12 million units per year.
Believe it
The January release date for the Verizon based iPhone is just in time for CES 2011, when Verizon planned to show off its newest fourth generation network. Some believe the move by Apple was based on AT&Ts fragile infrastructure, which has a long history of dropped calls and spotty coverage during peak use.
A Boon for Verizon
Verizon will make out like a bandit with the new release, as well as guard its current customers from AT&Ts service. Analysts have long criticized Verizon for failing to secure an iPhone deal when it was first brought to market, and ever since, Verizon has lost new subscribers due to the oversight. Verizon’s C-level executives believed that no one would ever buy a $600 phone (the iPhone’s first price tag). Boy, were they ever wrong.
The Verizon Trio
Securing the Verizon iPhone ramps up its already impressive line of smartphones. Google’s Andriod and RIM’s Blackberry are two top sellers at Verizon, but the release of the iPhone will only help settle the score between the two top carriers. With a beefed up lineup, we can expect better customer retention, strong earnings growth, and an excellent 2011 earnings season. Get ready for some profits, because Apple and Verizon are sure to make a killing when the iPhone opens up to the US’s largest phone carrier.
