The Pleasure of Trading

September 28th, 2006

In my years of being a trader, I have realized that the people that have become wildly successful are those that truly enjoy to trade. The same can be true about almost any industry, if you love what you do, you are more inclined to put a lot more effort to grow your expertise and study the intricacies of your industry. Some of the people that I meet that are extremely wealthy from trading can’t even believe that they get paid for trading. To them, they consider it a hobby that offers them a great lifestyle and handsome rewards.

I remember another trader named John. John used to come to the seminars and give a big, wide smile stating that finally he is at home. John loved the camaraderie of being with other traders. He enjoyed talking with other traders that shared his interests and that could offer great information and can give him insight into the subjects that he was interested in most. John would also talk about the latest features that they added to TradeStation and figuring out new ways to use EasyLanguage. He would talk about his daily ritual of checking the stats, keeping track of the monitors in his home and calling his broker about trades he would like to make. John loves to trade. The funny thing about John is that even when he lost a trade, he brushed it aside, because he still enjoyed the experience of trading.

The point that I am trying to make is that you should love trading for the sake of trading. If you are looking for a get rich quick scheme, if you hate trading on your computer or doing the research that makes it necessary for you to be successful, trading is not for you. There are no guarantees in life, however if you enjoy what you do, you are more willing to work much harder at it than the next person and for the most part, you will usually succeed. Most people that are only looking for a sure thing or looking for a get rich quick scheme are usually doomed to failure.
