Ford Start Concept Car Is…A Start?
If you’ve been reading this blog for any amount of time you should know by now that I appreciate Ford, both for standing up and saying “nay” to a bailout just as Henry Ford would have, and for being generally well managed. Its new concept car, the Ford Start, is another great product that I believe will lead Ford in the right direction.
The Ford Smart Concept
The Ford Smart is Ford’s attempt at a car that is both efficient, efficient, and stylish to boot. While the Smart car already exists, this new concept blends a city car size into a larger look. Here’s a glimpse of what is to come:

Yeah, it’s small. The Ford Start a 2-door and it has only a 3 cylinder engine to send it down the road. But the specs are actually rather impressive.

Word on the street is that the Ford Smart will be released with a 3 cylinder, 1.0 liter turbocharged engine that outputs an impressive 120 hp. By contrast, my aging 2002 Oldsmobile Alero puts out 140hp from a 2.2 liter, 4 cylinder engine. Needless to say, as mostly city driver, I’m impressed. Especially since this is going to create impressive miles per gallon ratings.
Why I Really Love It
To be brutally honest, I don’t really care about the cars I drive. Nor do I care about the environment enough to make search out a tiny car. The reason why I like this car is that it is prime for emerging markets, especially in China and India. China is largely General Motors territory, but I think this car has a chance to really make a splash in Asia where an emerging middle class wants personal transportation.
If Ford can find a way to put these out for less than $10,000 I think it’ll be an instant winner domestically and abroad. And with the middle class EXPLODING overseas, this product could sell like hot cakes. We should expect to see the engine from the car, the EcoBoost, to hit the North American market by 2011-2012. I’m eagerly waiting its arrival.

Auto insurance is one the most essential insurances in which a person needs to invest. Due to the fact that the accident rate on the South African roads is increasing on a daily basis, the risk of receiving damage to a motor vehicle is becoming a constant threat.
