Why You Should Not Get Involved In New, Emerging Markets

There are some things that you need to be aware of if you decide to get involved with new markets. This includes:
- There is the perception that you can now invest in these countries, which will lead the world in the future. While this may be true, you do need to understand that the lives of nations tend to last longer than the lives of companies. So, if you want to profit in these markets you are going to have to hold on for quite a while.
- If you are able to invest for the very long term, then you still need to be aware that the returns from an emerging market are likely to be more volatile. They are also not necessarily going to be as lucrative either.
- From time to time there are meltdowns in emerging markets. For instance, just this past Tuesday, there was a 9% tumble in the Chinese stock market. This was modest in comparison with the August 1998 implosion in emerging markets.
